Looking to simplify your tax year?
We’re here to help you with a summary of important dates and deadlines throughout the year. Stay organized and on top of everything you need to know to file your tax return on time.
January 2, 2026: Tax season officially starts. This is the first day the IRS begins accepting tax returns.
January 15, 2026: This is the deadline to pay the final “estimated tax” payment for the end of 2025.
March 16, 2026: This is the due date for business returns for partnerships and S-corporations.
April 15, 2026: This is the big deadline to file your personal tax return (Form 1040).
April 15, 2026: This is also the last day to ask for an “extension.” An extension gives you more time to finish your paperwork. You use Form 4868 to ask for this.
September 15, 2026: This is the deadline for partnerships and S-corporations that asked for extra time earlier in the year.
October 15, 2026: This is the final deadline for people who asked for a tax extension on their personal taxes.
Disaster Relief: If there is a major natural disaster (like a flood or hurricane) in your area, the group called FEMA may give you more time. If this happens, you or your business might get extra days to file your papers and pay your taxes. You can check the IRS website for “state-by-state” news to see if your area qualifies.
January 15, 2026 – Final 2025 Estimated Payment Due. If you are your own boss or have income where taxes aren’t taken out, this is the last day to pay taxes for the year 2025.
January 19, 2026 – Tax Season Begins. This is the first day the IRS starts taking and checking tax returns for the year.
January 31, 2026 – W-2 Form Deadline. Your boss must send out your W-2 form by today. You need this form to show how much you earned and how much tax you already paid. You might not get it in the mail today, but it must be sent by today.
January 31, 2026 – 1099 Forms Sent. If you did “gig work” or freelance jobs, you should get 1099 forms by this date. These forms show money you made from things like side jobs, interest from the bank, or prizes.
February 17, 2026 – Keep Your “Tax-Free” Paycheck. If you told your boss not to take taxes out of your check last year (because you didn’t owe any money), you must fill out a new Form W-4 by today to keep it that way.
April 15, 2026 – Tax Day. This is the big deadline. You must file your taxes by today. If you are late, the IRS will charge you extra money in fines and interest.
April 15, 2026 – Extension Deadline. If you aren’t ready to file your taxes, you must ask for an extension (Form 4868) by today. This gives you until October to finish the paperwork. Important: You still have to pay any money you owe the IRS by today, even if you ask for more time to file the papers.
September 15, 2026 – Business Extension Deadline. This is the final day for certain businesses (Partnerships and S-Corps) to file if they asked for extra time.
October 15, 2026 – Final Extension Deadline. If you asked for an extension in April, this is the very last day to turn in your tax papers.
January 15, 2027 – Final 2026 Estimated Payment Due. This is the last day to pay taxes on money earned at the end of 2026.
